A winter landscape distilled to light and shadow, where every step belongs to the present moment.
Available Original
Silent Footfall is an original gouache painting inspired by the snow-covered landscapes of Exmoor, where winter light reduces the moor to its most essential forms. Broad areas of white are balanced by carefully placed passages of black, creating a minimalist landscape defined by tone, proportion and open space.
Part of a contemplative series that includes Here and Now, Extended Pause and Present Tense, the work explores landscape, awareness and the experience of being fully present. Its title reflects the sensation of walking across freshly fallen snow, where sound is softened and each step becomes more deliberate, capturing the stillness and heightened awareness of the winter moor.
Artwork & Finish
Painted in gouache on textured paper, the work uses layered opaque and semi-opaque applications of black and white to create subtle variations in tone. The texture of the paper remains gently present within the painted passages, while the finished surface retains the naturally matt, velvety character of gouache.
