Onshore Blue captures the restless character of an onshore day at Downend Point, Croyde, on the North Devon coast. Fast-moving clouds obscure the sun while a fresh onshore breeze breaks up the surface of the Atlantic, replacing clean lines of swell with continual movement.

Working almost entirely through tonal variations of blue, the image brings sea and sky together within a restrained, atmospheric composition. Subtle shifts in value and luminosity convey the changing coastal conditions and elemental character of the original painting.
