At low tide, an open stretch of beach holds light, colour and reflected sky beneath a high summer haze.
Available Original
Let’s Fill Our Lungs With Salty Air 2 is an original watercolour inspired by Croyde Bay, North Devon, looking towards Downend and Baggy Point on a warm summer day at low tide. The retreating sea reveals a broad expanse of wet sand and shallow pools, creating an open landscape shaped by reflected light and expansive space.
Warm ochres and siennas mingle with cooler blues across the shoreline, while gentle pastel oranges and cobalt tones move between the sky and its reflections below. The panoramic composition and absence of figures allow the landscape itself to take centre stage, capturing the quiet, spacious character of Croyde at low tide through the fluid qualities of watercolour.
Artwork & Finish
Painted in watercolour on paper, the work combines transparent washes and successive layers of pigment while allowing the natural luminosity of the paper to remain visible. Controlled edges sit alongside freer passages where washes merge and disperse through the wet sand, tidal pools and reflected colour.
