In snow-bound stillness, time seems to slow as the landscape settles into quiet.

Available Original

Extended Pause is an original gouache painting inspired by the snow-covered landscapes of Exmoor, where winter light and open space reduce the moor to its most essential forms. A broad field of white and subtle tonal variations create a restrained landscape in which the horizon remains soft and understated.

Part of a contemplative triptych with Present Tense and Here and Now, the work explores stillness and the sensation of time slowing within the landscape. Its open composition and limited tonal range evoke the experience of standing alone on the winter moor, where sound is absorbed, movement is reduced and attention settles into quiet observation.

Artwork & Finish

Painted in gouache on textured paper, the work uses layered opaque and semi-opaque applications of black and white to create subtle variations in tone. The texture of the paper remains gently present within the painted passages, while the finished surface retains the naturally matt, velvety character of gouache.
