It was a large project. The owners of Blue Groove and myself had been discussing the re-design of their restaurant interior for over a year. I had come up with many ideas and by January 2006 had parred them down to a compact design proposal. There was to be extensive interior muralling, combined with funky 70's esq. wall papered sections, hidden picture rails and handcarved door signs. We wanted a totally unique feel to the restaurant, that would not only combine well with my paintings, that are always on display for sale, but would offer an atmospheric wineing and dining experience.
Some 400 or more hours later the interior was complete.
The muralled wall took, by far, the longest amount of time. It is over 30ft long, 10ft high and very detailed.
The scene is set on a jungle bound tropical island, that has perfect pumping surf, a couple of semi naked jungle ladies, a Green Iguana, and some twisting, tubular, many eyed, snakebeing. It’s kind of a funky surf utopia with never ending swell lines stretching out to the horizon..every surfer’s dream. The main area of the painting is made up of fat twisting vines tropical jungle leaves, & flowers, that seem so vibrant they almost appear alive. Two dice float out into the foreground, with a 6 and 1 showing, a good start in a game of backgammon............Click here to read the full story.
